Huércal-Overa

A busy town situated in the province of Almeria, on the Lorca-Baza railway, and between two branches of the river Almanzora. Huércal-Overa is the chief town of a thriving agricultural district, largely dependent for its prosperity on the lead mining carried on among the surrounding highlands. There are many banks, bars and restaurants in the centre of town.

Medical Services

The Hospital at Huércal-Overa is very modern, clean and very efficient, and is the major hospital in the area.

To get any treatment all that is required is your form E 111 if you are in the country for less than 3 months, otherwise you will need either to have Private Medical Insurance or join the Spanish Social Security System. The Hospital at Huércal-Overa has twin rooms for all patients with no open wards. The food is excellent and relatives and friends are encouraged to visit as much as possible. There is even a first class restaurant for visitors in the Hospital.

There are also a number of dentists and opticians in the town many of whom speak some English.

Visitors to the area from Britain need have no fears about the need for medical care should anything go wrong.
